Navigating a Day Off: From Frustration to Transformation 🌿đź’
Last Friday, I took my first day off from work since starting on October 11, 2021. While it turned out to be both productive and a blessing, it certainly didn’t start that way. The day began with disappointment, frustration, and discouragement—a rollercoaster of emotions I’m still sorting through.
Lessons in Patience (and Boundaries)
Most of my life, I’ve been the one to hold my tongue, trying to keep the peace or avoid awkward conversations with people who wouldn’t hear me anyway.
But in recent years, I’ve learned to just quietly step away when things feel like more work than they’re worth.
Friday, though? Let’s just say my patience was truly tested.
A Morning of Missteps
I feel a little bad for the five men I encountered at three different establishments. They bore the brunt of my irritability—stemming from a morning filled with:
- Incompetence.
- Lack of concern.
- A puzzling infatuation with the sound of their own voices.
It felt like everyone I interacted with was more focused on explaining why things wouldn’t work out in my favor rather than sticking to the facts and trying to help.
And let’s not forget the woman from earlier in the morning who started my day off with a similarly draining experience. So, gentlemen, don’t worry—this isn’t just about you!
Trying to Stay Positive
I worked hard to keep my morning appointment from setting the tone for the entire day. But let’s be honest: one frustrating encounter after another made it difficult.
By the time I walked into @friendlymarketnormanok for my medical marijuana card renewal appointment with @okcannabisdoc, I was at my wit’s end.
A Turning Point
What happened next completely changed my day.
The doctor and his team at Friendly Market were:
- Encouraging.
- Life-giving.
- Genuinely invested in conversation with me.
Their kindness and ability to truly listen turned my entire outlook around. It was a reminder of how powerful simple, meaningful interactions can be.
Trust Yourself
Here’s what I took away from the day:
No matter what anyone says, YOU and only YOU know what’s true.
Trust your gut. Listen to it.
Even on the toughest days, when it feels like everything is working against you, you can still press on, cry it out, scream it out, and keep moving forward. One way or another, it will all work out.
Final Thoughts
Your intuition is your greatest guide. Follow it—no matter what your “fan club” (or lack thereof) has to say.
And remember: sometimes, all it takes is one kind person or one meaningful conversation to turn your day (and your outlook) around.
